Travel Agency owner shot dead

ANGELES CITY-  An owner of a travel agency was shot dead by a vendor from Marawi City after an argument over space along Fields Avenue here at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Senior Inspector Luisito Tan, chief of the police station 4 in the tourist district near Clark Freeport, identified the victim as Edwin Pinyad, 42, owner of Northwest Travel Agency. He died from a bullet wound in the back.

The suspect was identified as vendor Karim Muhammad of Marawi City who remained at large as of yesterday.

“Muhammad and other vendors were usually allowed by the owners of business establishments in the area to position their carts in front of their businesses during night time. But the vendors were supposed to vacate the sidewalks as soon as the businesses opened,” Tan said.

When the victim arrived at his travel agency at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, however, he found Muhammad’s cart still positioned in front of his office, triggering an argument between the two, the police report said. The suspect sold cellphone accessories and other products in a cart.

“The suspect shot Pinyad in the back as he was  installing a tarpaulin signage in front of his agency after the confrontation,” Tan said.

Tan said the suspect fled with the .45 calibre pistol he used to shoot Pinyad.
