It is with deep regret that I must inform everyone that Midnight Rock is no more. It was a matter of choice. Health or Midnight Rock.
I probably made the wrong choice (as usual). Fire Pit are now the new owners, and I wish them well.
6 years 5 months and 9 days of absolute, pure enjoyment and passion.
That was my first attempt at running a bar, and hopefully not my last. If and when I sort my health out, I will be back on another Midnight Rock stage.
I should say a big thanks to Lucky Luciano who played bass with me many times at Midnight Rock, to all the great characters that I met along the way. Not to mention the people who visited regularly on Thursday nights, and countless people who have sent in text messages and emails during these trying months.
I have been in and out of hospital 6 times in 5 months. Doctor Tan is enthusiastic, but I do know that there will be no help for a liver at my age. If this one can just continue until I’ve passed. That will suffice.
Justin from Harry the Horse made I nice offer in his latest newsletter about getting a small piano to play in hospital:
‘Your witty personality still shines through the keyboard despite the various inputs and outputs you referred to. It would be an absolute pleasure to see you behind the ivories again so everyone is pulling for you.
If it would make you feel better, a few of the local lads could probably chip in and bring a small Yamaha keyboard to your (hotel room, bed room, hospital room) and we could have a chat while you do a good rendition of chopsticks or something. Give me a shout and let’s make it happen.
Dave’s bar, Midnight Rock, is located between Fire Pit and Porky’s on Perimeter Road. It’s a cozy venue with good music and a lot of memorabilia from Dave’s adventures. Best wishes Dave, and keep us in the loop.’

Whilst I very much appreciate the kind offer, sadly my practising days are over, not to mention that with all the 6 tubes connected to both hands I couldn’t even play ‘Chopsticks’ - apart from which, both hands are swollen like footballs. Add to that, I have developed a shaking in both hands, like the beginning of Parkinson’s disease.
Anyway, it’s been a ball and I hope to do it again as and when…………..
